GLENVILLE &045;&160;It’s becoming a summer tradition at Glenville-Emmons. For the third year in a row and the sixth time in the last 10 years, the G-E midget softball team is the champion of the Borderline League.

The team, comprised of seventh- and eighth-graders, competed against junior high teams from Iowa.

G-E posted a record of 11-1 on the season to win the conference crown. The team’s lone loss came against Lake Mills when extra innings were needed to decide the game.

Head coach Lisa Ziebell credited her team’s aggressiveness on the base paths for a lot of its success.

&8220;It really kept us in some games,&8221; said Ziebell. &8220;The girls were always looking to go from first to third and were just aggressive runners.

&8220;They are a good group and they are going to do well if they stick with it.&8221;

Ziebell said that one of the best positives about this year’s squad was its versatility.

&8220;Everyone could play two or three positions and they just had a good time,&8221; she said. &8220;We hit pretty well and we played strong defensively as a team.&8221;

Solid pitching also played a key role in keeping G-E at the top of the standings throughout the season.

Ziebell, who is in her eighth year coaching the team, was assisted by two recent graduates of Glenville-Emmons in Chelsey Ziebell and Jordan Claussen.

Members of the team were: Alayna Hall, April Davies, Robin Rowe, Jenna Klingson, Loren Poole, Reina Saltou, Sara Harty, Megan Rasmusson, Kalli VanRyswyk, Katelyn Bremer, Emily Belshan, Devan Cooper and Kailey Davis.

The teams that make up the Borderline League are: Lake Mills, Forrest City, Garner, Northwood-Kensett, Ventura and Britt.
