Richard Hanson, 79, Albert Lea

Funeral services will be for Richard &8220;Dick&8221; C. Hanson of 1303 Fairlane Terrace, Albert Lea, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 21, at Grace Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and one hour before the service at the church.

Dick died peacefully on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at Albert Lea Medical Center. He was 79.

He was born on April 17, 1927, in Oakland, the son of Alfred and Della (Wangen) Hanson. His father died when he was a young teen and he began helping on the family farm.

He married Jean Blake on Oct. 30, 1949, at the United Methodist Church in Albert Lea. They lived most of their married life in the Albert Lea area.

Dick’s work experience included driving a transit bus and milk truck, working for Sorensen Brothers Construction and then was an over the road trucker for 25 years for LCL Transit out of Austin. He retired in 1984, but then drove the Mayo heart lab around the area and also delivered trucks for Dave Syverson Ford.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where he had served as usher. He was also a member of the Moose and the Elks. In his younger years he had been very active in 4-H, had been a Golden Gloves boxer, and occasionally played his &8220;golden&8221; guitar in a band. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing, the Twins and Vikings and was a little kid at heart who loved to &8220;play&8221; with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Jean; children Cheri Wehrenberg of Albert Lea, and Ron Hanson and his wife Barbara of Eagan; grandchildren: Kristi Wehrenberg of Orlando, Fla., Blake Wehrenberg, stationed in Oklahoma City, Okla., Andrew Hanson of Rosemount;, four great-grandchildren; brother Wesley Hanson and his wife Lola of Brooklyn Park; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Sharon Hanson of Aitkin, Dwaine Bridley of Gordonsville, Gordon and Lola Blake of Arizona, Betty and Ralph Johnson of Albert Lea, Phyllis Blake of Walters, Rita Blake of Albert Lea; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Adrienne Hanson, son-in-law Mike Wehrenberg, brothers Roger, Alton and Sherman Hanson and sisters Delores Hanson and Alice Bridley.

Dick always provided for his family. He will be greatly missed and will always be remembered for his quick wit and for filling our lives with joy and fun.
