Robert Ashpole, 80, Minong, Wis.

Robert Develan Ashpole, age 80, of Minong, Wis., died July 20, 2006, at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minn. A graveside service was held July 25, 2006, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Honorary casket bearers were Dawn Bowman, Brian Bowman, Alison Aubrecht, Megan Ashpole, Katie Ashpole and McKenzie Pochardt.

Robert was born Oct. 12, 1925, in King Township, Winnebago, Iowa to Emery and Genevieve (Awe) Ashpole. He was one of five children.

Bob spent 30 years of active service in the Army, earning three purple hearts, three bronze service stars, and a United Nations service metal for different heroic acts during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. He spent three years in Korea as a prisoner of war and as a result has many cherished comrades in arms.

Bob is remembered as a loyal soldier, a terrific father and a loving grandfather. He will be missed.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mae, parents, Emery and Genevieve, siblings, Roger (SP), Ken, Mary and son-in-law, Tom.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Ron Bowman of Minong, Wis., Zina and Lance Peterson of Maple Grove, Minn., son and daughter-in-law, Reed and Patty of Chaska, Minn., brother, Earl, aunt Gayle, sisters-in-law, Bea, Elaine, Della, brother-ion-law, Ken, grandchildren, Dawn, Brian, Chad, Alison, Megan and Katie, great-grandchild, McKenzie, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Funeral arrangements were with the Bertas Funeral Home, Chaska, Minn.
