Lucille Miller, 83, Waseca

Lucille R. (Kahnke) Miller, age 83, of Waseca, died on Monday, Aug. 28, 2006, at the Janesville Nursing Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Aug. 31, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca with the Rev. John Kunz officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca, and will continue on Thursday morning from 9 a.m. until the hour of service, at church. There will be a 7 p.m. Catholic Daughter Rosary Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church. McRaith Funeral Home of Waseca is handling arrangements.

Born Lucille Rose Kahnke, Dec. 16, 1922, in Waseca County on a farm place southeast of Janesville; Lucille was the third child of Vincent and Mary (Lynch) Kahnke. Lucille attended the District 64 elementary school and completed her Graduate Equivalency Diploma after raising her children. For more than 30 years Lucille volunteered her time for church and community organizations in Waseca County including Catholic Daughters of America, Sacred Heart Home & School Association, Blooming Grove Township Extension Service, Waseca Public Schools special education initiatives and the Association for Retarded Citizens. In addition, Lucille belonged to several clubs including the Toastmistress Club, St. John&8217;s Circle at Sacred Heart Church, and Blooming Grove Township Club. Lucille was raised Catholic and had a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She loved children and stressed education for her family. She celebrated life with dancing, music, poetry, needlework, baking and gardening. She also had a special fondness for birds and animals. Through the years she enjoyed many travel adventures that she summarized in her memoir, &8220;My Career.&8221;

On April 16, 1940, Lucille married Alvin Joseph Miller Sr. in Janesville at St. Ann&8217;s Catholic Church. In 1944, they moved from Hartland to Blooming Grove Township in Waseca County and later to the town of Waseca.

Lucille is survived by her husband Alvin and their 22 children: Sister Ramona OSF, Alvin Jr., Rose Ann, Kathleen, Robert, Patricia, Marylu, Diane, John, Janet, Linda, Virginia, Helen, Arthur, Dolores, Martin, Pauline, Alice, Angela, Marcia, Gregory and Damien; by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Vincent Kahnke, Dave Kahnke; sisters, Sister Marianne Kahnke, Marg Miller and Therese Nord.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother Herb Kahnke and one great-granddaughter.

Casket bearers are Alvin Miller Jr., Bob Miller, John Miller, Art Miller, Greg Miller and Damien Miller. Honorary casket bearer is Marty Miller.
