Catherine Johnson, 96

The funeral service for Catherine Jane Johnson will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, at Bonnerup Funeral Chapel in Albert Lea. The Rev. James Berning and Deacon Michael Ellis will officiate. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the chapel.

Catherine died on Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at Albert Lea Medical Center. She was 96 years old.

Catherine was born in Shullsberg, Wis., on Sept. 19, 1910, the daughter of Martin and Margaret (LaBarre) Kilcoyne. She attended high school in Dubuque, Iowa. At the age of 18 she moved with her family to Albert Lea.

On June 18, 1930, she was united in marriage with Elmer J. Johnson in Albert Lea. During their marriage they lived in Albert Lea, Rochester, Wabasha, and then returned to Albert Lea in 1989.

Catherine was a faithful member of St. Theodore Catholic Church and was grateful to her friend, Joe Probst for taking her to church each week. She was a charter member of the Eagles Auxiliary. She was an avid 500 player at the Albert Lea Senior Center twice a week.

Catherine enjoyed baking and cooking for her family and extended family and her specialties were pies, cookies, salsa, lefsa, jams and jellies.

Catherine is survived by her son, Thomas S. (Corinne &8220;Cori&8221;) Johnson of Walker; eight grandchildren: Mitchell (Sheila) Johnson of Durand, Wis., Robby Johnson of St. Paul, Katie Johnson of Minneapolis, Kimberly, Kelly and Benjamin Johnson of Rochester, and Timothy and Jeffery Johnson-Jerry of Cottage Grove; one sister, Janan (Robert) Gulbrandson of Albert Lea; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer in 1995; daughter, Bonnie Lou Johnson; two sons: Robert and Jerome Johnson; grandson, Steven Lee Johnson; three brothers: John, Ernest and Joseph Kilcoyne; and one sister, Clara O&8217;Byrne.
