Charlotte Schmidthuber, 87, Grinnell, Iowa

Charlotte Lillian Schmidthuber, age 87, of Grinnell, Iowa, formerly of Emmons, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2006, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell, Iowa. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, at Emmons Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Julie Fiske officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service only on Thursday morning at the church. Burial will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Emmons, Minn.

Charlotte Lillian Schmidthuber, the daughter of Andrew O. and Minnie Reim Larson, was born Aug. 19, 1919, in Freeborn County. She attended rural school near her home and later graduated from Alden High School.

She was married to Horace Schmidthuber Oct. 4, 1938, in Hampton, Iowa. The couple farmed on the Schmidthuber family farm for many years near Emmons. Following the death of her husband in 1979 she lived in several communities including Albert Lea, the Kansas City area, and Lake Mills. She moved to Grinnell in 2004. Charlotte was a member of the Emmons Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Sue (Don) Longhurst of Grinnell and Diane (Leo) Kennedy of Roeland Park, Kan.; one sister, Mildred Marsh of Albert Lea; one brother, Garwood Larson of Albert Lea; seven grandchildren, Darren Schmidthuber, Jason and his wife Amy Schmidthuber, Melissa Schmidthuber, Kelly and husband Jim Weston, Ann and husband Jeremy Showers, Michael Longhurst and Adam Kennedy; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son and daughter-in-law, Francis and Sharon Schmidthuber; one sister, Vera Tiede; and one brother, Woodrow Larson.
