Hazel Mildred Stensrud, age 94, of East Fourth Street, Duluth, died Sept. 12, 2006, at
Chris Jensen Health
Center, Duluth.
Hazel was born June 20, 1912, in Munich, N.D., to Adolph and Mary (Fingerson) Johnson. She graduated from Munich High School, where she played basketball. After graduating from high school, Hazel moved to New Richland. She married C. Arthur Stensrud in
Albert Lea on Nov. 15, 1931. While in New Richland, Hazel was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Andrew Borgen Post.
She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Arthur Stensrud on Aug. 24, 1985, and her brothers Art and Carl Johnson and her sisters Minnie, Mabel and Evelyn.
Hazel is survived by her daughter, Yvonne (Burnie) Williams of Duluth; two grandchildren, Brian (Marie) Williams of White Bear Lake, and Michele (Wayne) Johnson of Duluth; four great-grandchildren, Brianna, Rachel, Madalyn and Noah; three sisters-in-law, Marvel Bickel and Gen Dullum both of Mankato, and Viola Clayton of Waseca, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will begin at noon with services at 1 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Richland. Burial will be at St. Olaf Cemetery. Arrangements are by Dougherty Funeral Home, Duluth, (218)727-3555.
