The funeral service for Maleta L. Katzung of St. John&8217;s Lutheran Home, Albert Lea, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11,at Mansfield Lutheran Church. The Rev. Don Rose will officiate.

Interment will be in Mansfield Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour before the service at the church.

Maleta died on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006. at St. John&8217;s Lutheran Home. She was 95.

She was born on Feb. 28, 1911, in Alden Township, the daughter of John B. and Martha (Helmer) Fahs. She was baptized and confirmed at Mansfield Lutheran Church and attended rural school in Freeborn County.

As a young woman she worked as a telephone operator in Conger and also at a restaurant in Alden.

It was in Alden that she met

Melvin F. Katzung and on Aug. 12, 1931, they were united in marriage at Mansfield Lutheran Church.

Together they lived and farmed in the Kiester and Walters area.

She also had worked as a cook, baker and waitress at the Skyline Restaurant

and Skyline Mall Cafeteria, and the B & W Caf/ in Albert Lea.

She was a lifelong member of Mansfield Lutheran Church where she had been active in WELCA and served as its treasurer for three years.

Maleta enjoyed doing needlework and embroidery.

She thrived on

being involved in family, taking in all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren&8217;s activities and lovingly hosting on holidays and special gatherings.

Maleta is survived by two children: Lois Anderson and her husband Les of Albert Lea, and Larry Katzung and his wife Hildy of Frisco, Texas; five grandchildren: Doug Anderson, Nancy and her husband Larry Lahs Jr., Jerry Katzung and his wife Bonnie, Michelle and her husband Tom Baerenwald, and Dean Katzung and his wife Deanna; six great- grandchildren: Tara Madson, Alex and Eric Katzung, Samantha, Logan and Parker Baerenwald; sisters Frieda Johnson and Viola Greenfield and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Melvin in 2002; twin children Betty and Robert in infancy; grandson Brad Anderson; sisters-in-law Arvilla Katzung in infancy and Berdena Lindeman; and brothers-in-law Vern Lindeman, Leigh Stanley, Marion Johnson and James Greenfield.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Mansfield Lutheran Church or St. John&8217;s Lutheran Home Chapel.
