Mankato East downs Tigers on Senior Night, 4-3

Mankato East put a damper on Albert Lea&8217;s Senior Night by downing the Tigers 4-3.

The Cougars asserted themselves in singles play winning three of the four matches starting at No. 2 singles where Amanda Leonard fell 3-6, 5-7.

Kelli Hanson lost at No. 3 2-6, 3-6 and Cori Madson could not find her rhythm at No. 4 dropping a pair of sets by the identical score of 0-6.

Dezeray Jacobs did pick up a win at No. 1 needing three sets 6-4, 0-6, 6-0.

Cara Thorn and Liz Thompson won their match at No. 1 doubles 6-4, 6-4, while Niki and Hali Hendrickson took the No. 2 match 6-1, 7-6 (7-2).

Naomi Holt and Chelsea Hill closed out the match with a 2-6, 1-6 loss.

&8220;A section loss is always tough but then you add the conference points you lose as well,&8221; Albert Lea head coach Sean Gillam. &8220;We are probably looking at a six or seven seed in the section now.&8221;

Over the weekend, the Tigers dropped a difficult match to Waseca, another section opponent, 7-0.

Jacobs and Leonard lost their matches 5-7, 4-6 and 4-6, 2-6, respectively.

Hanson dropped her match in three sets 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 2-6 and Sarah Wenum rounded out the singles 0-6, 3-6.

Thorn and Thompson also went three sets but couldn&8217;t pull out the win 6-3, 4-6, 3-6, the Hendricksons lost 2-6, 4-6 and Holt and Hill were denied 2-6, 1-6.
