Manville W. Elmer, age 85, of Wells, died on Monday, Sept. 4, 2006, at his home in Wells. Funeral services will beat 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells. The Rev. Meg Sander will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Wells with military honors by the Wells Color Guard.

Manville W. Elmer was born on Jan. 23, 1921, in Clark Township, the son of William Edward and Minnie (Boeder) Elmer. He graduated from Wells High School. He served in the US Army during World War II and was honorably discharged. On Oct. 23, 1941, he married Martha Schmidt in Wells. He graduated from Ag School and farmed and raised cattle all of his life. Manville was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, taught Sunday School, served on the church council, and was a past-president of the Brotherhood men&8217;s group. He served on the Wells Rural Electric Association Board for 23 years as a director and was secretary for many years. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, the Faribault County Fair Board and Historical Society. Manville was a member of the Wells American Legion and the VFW for the past 60 years. He and Martha enjoyed dancing, playing cards, visiting, farming and he loved to read books and make homemade ice cream.

He is survived by four daughters: Gerry Baynard of Wells, Marilyn (Kerwin) Cordes of Comstock, Wis.; Beverly Elmer of Wells, and Ruth (Lyle) Holland of Mankato; one son Russell (Nancy) Elmer of Wells, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, one sister Alverna Ehlert of Wells, and one sister-in-law: Vonnie (Ken) Walker of Wells.

Preceding him in death are his parents, his wife in 1988, one granddaughter, Christine Elmer.
