Norma Tukua, 96, of Albert Lea

The funeral service for Norma A. Tukua of Albert Lea will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6 at the First Lutheran Church. Pastor Dan Baker will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Norma died Friday, September 1, 2006 at St. John’s Lutheran Home where she had been a resident since April 1, 1999.
She was 96 years of age.
Norma Aldyth Tukua was born March 16, 1910 to Alfred and Olga (Tommeraasen) Gunderson in Freeborn County. She was baptized and confirmed at Lunder Lutheran Church and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1927. On June 1, 1929 she married Oscar Tukua. Together they farmed in Freeborn County for 58 years. Norma had been an adult 4-H leader, Sunday school teacher, Bible study participant, and member of the Happiness is a Blanket Quilting Group.
Her family was very important to her. She enjoyed preparing special family meals and sharing her baking and preserved fruits and vegetables. Among the grandchildren’s favorites were her meatballs and donuts.
Her strawberry patch was her pride and joy. She was an excellent self-taught seamstress.
Norma is survived by her three children: Alice (Stan) Jensen of Albert Lea, Ellwood (Janice) Tukua of Alden, Raymond (Shirley) Tukua of Calhan, Colo.; nine grandchildren: David Jensen of Wells, Mary (Al) Schallock of Albert Lea, John (Sue) Jensen of Eau Claire, Wis., Lori (Paul) Yeske of St. Peter, Lisa (Brian) Doyle of Lakeville, Steve (Mary) Tukua of Bennett, Colo., Tammy (Mark) Pavlica, Colorado Springs, Colo., Kristy (Adam) Balsick, Calhan, Colo. and Cindy (Chad) Maranville of Matheson, Colo.; great-grandchildren: Logan, Lance and Liana Schallock, Adam Yeske, Nathan and Nicole Doyle, Alison, Jacob and Luke Pavlica, Garrett Balsick and Kylie Maranville.
Also surviving is sister: Ruby Rogeness, one brother: Ardell Gunderson, sister-in-law: Gelma Fossum.
She was preceded in death by her husband Oscar, granddaughter, Carol Marie Jensen, parents, two sisters, Sylvia Nelson and Lillian Gunderson and four brothers, Truman, Carlisle, Vernon and Gaylord.
