Northwood-Kensett remains perfect with 28-27 victory

The Northwood-Kensett football team had a close call but downed SCMT 28-27 to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Tyler Stading preserved the win for the Vikings by blocking a extra point early in the fourth quarter.

SCMT used its passing game which rolled up 179 yards in the game while N-K relied on the run getting 251 yards on 52 carries. Stading led the way with 100 yards on 22 carries and Matt Hengesteg added 79 yards.

SCMT opened the scoring with a 6-yard run by Alex Pals, but Hengesteg would answer a minute later with a 9-yard sprint to the end zone to make it 7-6 N-K after one.

Hengesteg would add a 32-yard score and Stading punched it in from 3 yards out to give the Vikings a 21-14 lead

before SCMT scored on a 49-yard pass play with just 25 seconds left in the half to tie the score going into the locker room.

Stading scored the winning touchdown midway through the third on a 1-yard plunge with Jordan Cotter kicking the extra point.

Stading also led the defense with eight solo tackles and 14 assists. Cody Hanson also had a big game for the Vikings picking off a pair of passes.

The Vikings are back in action Friday when they welcome Graettinger to Northwood.
