Like the Mayo Spartans before them, Rochester John Marshall got an early lead and couldn&8217;t hold on.

Nicking one just under the crossbar during a restart in the opening minutes of the game, the Rockets couldn&8217;t find the back of the net again through 80 minutes of regulation and 10 minutes of overtime.

The Tigers put together a spirited offensive and defensive display to find the equalizer midway through the second half when Connor Peterson netted a Brittni Lair pass, but couldn&8217;t put the

game away either as it ended in a 1-1 tie.

&8220;For the most part,&8221; Tiger head coach Rick Barnhill said, &8220;it was a fun game to watch. Both teams have talent, but different styles that take advantage of their respective strengths. I was pleased to see how well we circulated the ball and our ability to attack from every angle and every position.

&8220;Connor&8217;s goal was very well done. Not only did she shoot around a defender that was right in her face, but it came out of traffic so fast that the keeper couldn&8217;t see it.&8221;

Barnhill also lauded the defense for turning away or minimizing several potent Rocket attacks.

&8220;Madi (Passingham) put in another solid 90 minutes in goal.

She has been a quick study and made 13 outstanding saves against strong, direct shots.

Her continuing improvement enables me to reshape the team for maximum advantage.&8221;

The Tigers put 21 shots on goal versus the Rockets&8217; 22 and A.L. had eight corner kicks to JM&8217;s four.

The team gets a chance to rest, recuperate and prepare for a trip to Winona to play the Winhawks on Saturday before returning home next Tuesday to face Mankato East on Senior Night.
