Gertrude Iverson, 93

Funeral services for Gertrude T. Iverson, age 93, of rural Hayward will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 2, 2006, at the Hayward Lutheran Church.

Rev. John Malm will officiate. Interment will be in the Hayward Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services at the Church.

Gertrude died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Gertrude Theodora Iverson was born to Charles Theodore and Ingeborg Marie (Skaar) Nelson on Dec. 25, 1912, on the same farm in Hayward Township where she still lived.

She attended school at District 60 and passed all her state boards after six years.

Gertrude roomed and boarded in Albert Lea to attend Albert Lea High School, graduating in 1930.

She attended Winona State Teacher&8217;s College and graduated in 1932. Gertrude taught for six years at Districts 128, 65, and her home District 60. She married Simon Leroy Iverson of Hartland Township, Worth County, Iowa on July 31, 1938, at the Hayward Lutheran Church and they moved to the farm in Hayward Township.

Gertrude was a lifetime member of Hayward Lutheran Church and was active as a Sunday school teacher and member of the Church Council and the women’s organizations.

She had been a 4-H member as well as a leader.

Gertrude was a lifetime teacher, a strong and active person who truly loved nature, the farm life, cooking, and baking.

She especially enjoyed passing on her baking skills to her grandchildren.

Survivors include Stuart and his wife, Alice, and their sons, Scott and Chris (Tracy Van de Wiel), all of Canada; Keith and his wife, Janet, on the home farm at Hayward and their children: Kyle, spouse Rita, children Theadora and Simon; Sarah, spouse Troy Wangler and daughter Elizabeth; and Meta, spouse Chris Johnson and daughter Heather, all of Minnesota; Sharon Bornfleth of Wisconsin and her children: Sherida (Rich Glowacki) of Seattle; Kevin, spouse Kristin and daughter Emma; and Joshua Madson, all of Minnesota; and Gennell Iverson of Winona. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Ila and husband Rueben Schmidt and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Simon on May 11, 1997.
