Robert Nelson, 76, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Robert R.W. Nelson of rural Albert Lea will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at First Lutheran Church, Glenville. The Rev. Mark Wendland will officiate. Interment will be in the North Round Prairie Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., one hour before service at the church. Military honors will be accorded by the Glenville American Legion.

Robert died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. He was 76 years old.

Robert was born in Freeborn County on June 1, 1930, the son of Harlan W. and Blanche (Beighley) Nelson. He was a graduate of Albert Lea High School and Austin Technical College. Robert had been a resident of Glenville most of his life. Robert was united in marriage to Harriet Hoverson on Sept. 9, 1952, in Orlando, Fla. Robert worked for Streater in Albert Lea as a maintenance mechanic. He served his country in the US Navy, stationed in Florida and Hawaii. He enjoyed motorcycling, hunting, fishing, and boating. He also enjoyed horses and metalworking.

Robert is survived by his wife, Harriet of 54 years; son, Bruce (Nancy) Nelson of Otsego, Minn., and their children, Erica and Jennifer; son, Doug (Karen) Nelson of Rochester, Minn., and their children, Jeffrey, Ryan and Benjamin; son, Jonathan (Kristine) Nelson of Jordan, Minn.; brothers, Lowell (Marcella) Nelson of Glenville, Minn., David (Judy) Nelson of Anaconda, Mont., Blaine (Jill) Nelson of Glenville, Minn.; many nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
