USC doubles team advances

ST. PETER &045; The United South Central girls&8217; tennis team advanced the doubles squad of Amanda Redman and Molly Yokiel to the semifinal round of the 2A individual section tournament Monday.

The duo won a pair of matches to move within two more wins of qualifying for the state tournament.

In the first round, Redman and Yokiel downed Tina Aarsvold and Emily Nelson of St. Peter 6-2, 6-4 and followed that up with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Nikki Stenzel and Megan Flohrs of St. James.

USC&8217;s other doubles team of Jill Stenzel and Andrea Allis won a first round match over Fairmont&8217;s Jeannie Borowski and Melissa Miller 6-4, 6-2 before coming up just short against the Martin County West team of Cailey Grupe and Toni Pribyl 4-6, 2-6.

In singles action, Jessica Stensrud lost to St. James&8217; Danielle Munsterman 1-6, 1-6 and Carolyn Schmitz was downed by Whitney Dirks of St. Peter in the first round 1-6, 5-7.

Redman and Yokiel will be back in action at Gustavus Adolphus today at 4:30 p.m.
