Winnebago and Worth County voters will have few local choices to make at the polls in November.
Worth County has two contested races.
Candidates for District 3 Board of Supervisors are Republican incumbent Kenneth Abrams, and Democrat Jeffrey Creger. The county treasurer will be decided between Republican Jake Hanson and Democrat Jane Bloomingdale.
Abrams said there are few issues existing in District 3 and that operations are running pretty smoothly. His opponent, however, sees two main issues that need to be addressed by the county.
The county needs to continue momentum on keeping local control, Creger said. He said he was discouraged by the Board of Supervisors assistance when a hog confinement was going to open a mile south of his home. Creger opposed the confinement.
He said he organized with other concerned neighbors and citizens to address the situation and the state with there concerns to protect wetland areas where the construction was to take place.
A letter he wrote went to the Department of Natural Resources and the hog confinement was never built.
&8220;We won one people didn&8217;t think we could,&8221; Creger said.
Creger also wants to address the issue of what to do with the revenue from Diamond Jo Casino.
&8220;We need to use it the right way to bring people to the county,&8221; he said.
He hopes to see the revenue put towards three-to-five-year development planning and five-to-10-year development planning.
With talks of Worth County building a welcome center near the casino, Abrams said he doesn&8217;t think the county should spend the proposed $7 million.
&8220;We want development, but we can&8217;t be giving farms away to get it,&8221; he said.
Abrams said the county has been running smoothly. He has been on the board for four years. He said he keeps a positive attitude and that the key to maintaining success for the Board of Supervisor will come with longevity and common sense planning.
Abrams said the county could benefit from a ambulance service and a recycling center. In the short-term, Worth County is doing well, but he does have some long-term goals he hopes to accomplish as supervisor.
The District 1 Board of Supervisors candidate is incumbent Dennis May.
The county attorney candidate is incumbent Republican Jeffrey Greve while the county recorder candidate is incumbent Republican Liz Kenison.
Winnebago County&8217;s only contested race for their Board of Supervisors is District 3. Candidates include Democrat Warren Wubben, Republican Clarence Miller and Charles Smith who was nominated by petition.
The lone District 1 candidate is Republican Jim Oulman.
Other solo candidates on the ballot include Julie Swenson for county treasurer, Kristin Colby for county recorder and Robert Cooper for county attorney. All three candidates are Republican.
