Berdelle Sutlief, 84, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Berdelle N. Sutlief, of Albert Lea, will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. John Holt will officiate. Interment will be in St. Peters Cemetery, New Richland. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea and one hour before the service at the church.

Berdelle died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006, at

the Albert Lea Medical Center. She was 84 years old.

Berdelle was born Dec. 7, 1921, in Hartland to William and Bertina (Sybilrud) Olson. She grew up in Hartland and went to rural country school in the Hartland area of Freeborn County. She lived in New Richland, Owatonna, and Albert Lea. She also lived in Vancouver, Wash., where she worked on an aircraft carrier as a welder. It was there that she met and married Jack Saxon, Barbara&8217;s father. Berdelle married Irvin Sutlief on Feb. 22, 1948 in, Albert Lea. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church.

Berdelle and Irvin owned and operated Paul&8217;s Caf/ in Albert Lea. Over her life, she worked for Trumble&8217;s, the Monterey Ballroom near Owatonna, Fred Jensen Hatchery, and Conner&8217;s Nursing Home. Berdelle was mother and grandmother of the year for the Eagles. Berdelle was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed volunteering for the Eagles&8217; suppers and the Salvation Army. Berdelle also enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and going to garage sales.

Berdelle is survived by her three daughters: Barbara Quillin and her husband Doyle of San Antonio, Texas, Diane Srp and her husband Alan of Oakland, and Nancy Johnson and her husband William (Bill) of Lakeville; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: George Olson and his wife Beverly of Owatonna, Clifford Olson and his wife Millie of Hartland, Wilma Bindewald and her husband Roger of Shakopee, and Gloris Frantum and her husband Clifford of Alden; brother-in-law: LeRoy Sutlief and his wife Alice of Rochester and sister-in-law: Irene Sutlief of Waseca.

Berdelle is preceded in death by her parents William and Bertina Olson; husband: Irvin Sutlief; sisters: Blanche Edwin and her husband Nels, Bonnie Bergeson and her husband Verne; brother: Wilbur Olson.
