Everyone knows the Bowl Championship Series is a flawed system.

But somehow, the right team stayed No. 2 in the BCS Standings. Michigan played a good game against No. 1 Ohio State. If you are No. 2, the parameters of that term means you only would lose in a close contest to the team ranked No. 1, right? That’s what Michigan did Saturday.

We find it odd that each year teams are punished for losing late in the year to good teams but not as much for losing early in the year, often to upstarts and sometimes to patsies. Everyone wants a playoff

system for NCAA football and everyone dislikes the month rest between the season’s end and the postseason.

Money is the reason usually cited for not switching, but we believe there could be more money in catering to the wishes of the fans.

Oh well. At least the BCS did something right this week. We thought it was worth noting.

The AP Top 25 poll lists Michigan as No. 2, too. Coaches rewarded Southern Cal for whipping then No. 17 Cal, now No. 22 (No. 19 in BCS). Southern Cal lost to the unranked Oregon State Beavers on Oct. 28.
