George Hanson, 91, Albert Lea

The funeral service for George Hanson, of Good Samaritan Center, Albert Lea, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 20, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Curtis Zieske and the Rev. Marcia Hall will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by Albert Lea veterans organizations. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and one hour before the service at the church.
George died on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006, at Good Samaritan Center. He was 91.
He was born on Oct. 3, 1915, in Moscow, Freeborn County, the son of Gilbert and Louisia (Wangen) Hanson. He served our country in the U.S. Army from May of 1941 until his honorable discharge in 1945. He married Jean McCarter on April 5, 1942, in Ireland. Following George&8217;s discharge from the service in 1945, they made their home in Mower County until 1955 when they moved to Freeborn County.
George had been employed by Wilson & Co. for more than 20 years. He was a member of the V.F.W., the American Legion, and Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed playing guitar and singing.
George is survived by six children: Jean (Nash) Chavez of Austin, Margaret (James) Smith of Albert Lea, Richard (Cindy) Hanson of Blaine, Georgeanna (Jimmy) Lovejoy of Indianapolis, Ind., Gail (Doug) Hanson of Albert Lea, and Linda Nelson (Joe Mrla) of Eagle Grove, Iowa; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; a brother Ole Hanson of Austin; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jean in 1999, and several brothers and sisters.
George will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
