I like small town life,&8221; commented Heidi Watson of Glenville, who&8217;s the new food and bar manager for Albert Lea&8217;s Leo Carey Post 56 of the American Legion.
She&8217;s been at the Legion Club, 142 N. Broadway Ave., since May. Her previous employment was as the manager of the Office Bar and Restaurant in Glenville for three years and working prior to
that at Streater for 15 years.
Watson was born and raised in Northglenn, Colo., a suburb to the north of Denver on Interstate 25. She and her husband, Ron, who works at Edwards Manufacturing Co., moved to Glenville in 1988.
&8220;We wanted to raise our kids in a smaller, safer town,&8221; she said to explain in part the desire to move to Minnesota.
However, this football fan explains that her Colorado connection is still evident. She has great enthusiasm for the Denver Broncos.
There&8217;s also still a strong connection with Colorado where her two sisters and mother live. Her twin brother lives in Litchfeld, west of the Twin Cities, and an older brother resides in Yankton,
S.D. Heidi&8217;s father lives in Cheyenne, Wyo.
The position at the Legion Club includes events planning and doing all the ordering and scheduling.
As the events planner she gets involved with the various aspects of engagement and wedding dinners, birthday parties, retirement celebrations, Christmas parties and other special events.
And she added that several Christmas season parties at the Legion Club are scheduled to take place in January.
Watson has been certified as a food safety manager by the state&8217;s health department.
&8220;I urge people to join their Legion friends for a dinner at the club, or for dollar burgers on Tuesday nights,&8221; she said.
The Legion has events for both members, plus the public. Watson said breakfasts and dinners for the legionnaires and auxiliary also involve help from volunteers. For the other events she explained that &8220;paid help&8221; is used for the cooking, serving and cleaning up duties.
&8220;I would like to tend bar more,&8221; she commented. &8220;I like to meet people and just visit.&8221;
