Garwood M. Larson, 84, Twin Lakes

Garwood Manville Larson of Twin Lakes, Minnesota died at the Good Samaritan Home on Dec. 20, 2006, where he had been a resident the past several months, having suffered a severe heart attack and was followed by a disabling stroke.
Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date, a per his request.
Garwood was the son of Andrew O. and Minnie (Reim) Larson and was born on Oct. 1, 1922 in Freeborn County. He was 84 years, 2 months and 20 days.
He attended rural school near his home and then attended the Alden Consolidated School, graduating in 1940.
He was married to Mavis Virginia Brewer in Feb. 1946 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The couple farmed in the Twin Lakes area for many years. He loved farming and did custom spraying for many farmers, until his health forced him to retire.
He was very active in the Democratic political party programs.
When the health of his wife began to decline, he cared for her for 13 years until her death in 1995.
While in high school, he was very active in the sports and music programs offered at the school, receiving many letters and commendations. He also took part in the Operators, junior and senior class plays.
He was very passionate about deer and wild turkey, keeping his farm site as a sanctuary, regularly feeding them at his back door. He really appreciated nature, picking up pretty and unusual rocks and sea shells along with Indian arrow heads that he would find along the Bear Lakes shore and add them to his collections.
He loved going dancing or playing cards and visiting with friends and neighbors. He was also an avid reader, accumulating many books.
He is survived by his son, Douglas Larson and his wife Diane Larson of Elkhart, Indiana. By grandchildren, Megan (Zack) Catlin, Jerrod Larson, and Christy Larson. Step-grandchildren, Michelle (Karl) Mundell, Marty (Nancy) Smith, Ken (Malinda) Dickens, Seth Dickens, and Jon Dickens. His sister Mildred Marsh of Good Samaritan Home. His nieces, Betty (John) Norwicki and their children, Joan Junner, Sue (Don) Longhurst and their children, Diane (Leo) Kennedy and their children; as well as many friends including very special friends Don and Julie Yost, Devin and Kelly and Don and his wife, Miscal Gooden.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Minnie Larson; his wife Mavis; brother, Woodrew Larson and sister, Vera Tiede and Charlotte Schmidthuber. Brothers-in-law, Howard Marsh, Harold Tiede, Francis Schmidthuber.
