Hubert Jiroushek, 99, Ellendale

Funeral services for Hubert George Jiroushek of rural Ellendale will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at the First Lutheran Church of Ellendale. The Reverend Arnie Halbakken will officiate.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Bonnerup Funeral Service in Ellendale, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Steele Center Cemetery.

Mr. Jiroushek died Monday morning, Dec. 25, 2006 at the Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Blooming Prairie where he had been a resident since October of this year.

Hubert was born Sept. 24, 1907 in Hope the son of Karl and Marie (Skerik) Jiroushek. He attended country school in Hope, MN. On Nov. 4, 1931 he was united in marriage to Adeline Boettcher in Owatonna. Adeline died in 2004 after 73 years of marriage.

Hubert lived his entire life on the farm in Steele County. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Ellendale where he had been active as an usher and on the church council.

Hubert had been employed in his younger years with the Oldefendt Farm Store and worked on the Rock Island Railroad. He spent the majority of his life farming in Steele County. In the 1940s and 50s he repaired telephone lines in the area without pay.

Hubert was a current member of the Ellendale Historical Society and still attended meetings. He volunteered for Semcac and delivered meals on wheels well into his 90s.

Anything mechanical was his love. He attended many parades with his model-T riding with Barb Mrotz in the passenger seat. He loved gardening, working the earth and raised a very large strawberry patch every year.

Hubert is survived by his daughters Betty Anderson of Bixby, Janice and her husband Dale Waage of Ellendale, grandchildren Craig (Theresa Gallea) Anderson, Brian (Kathy) Waage, Lee Waage, and Bruce (Brenda) Waage. There are five great grandchildren, Jessica and Allison Waage, Demario, Davante and Cardia Reid. Two cousins Esther Damron and Dorothy Skerik both of Minneapolis.

Hubert was preceded in death by his parents, wife Adeline, son-in-law DuWayne Anderson, and brothers Frank and Edward.
