Hulda M. Olson, 86, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Hulda M. Olson of Albert Lea will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea.
Interment will be in Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, Pickerel Lake.
Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.
Hulda died on Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, in Rochester.
She was 86.
She was born on Feb. 3, 1920, in Pickerel Lake Township, Freeborn County to Fred and Anna (Stern) Schmidt.
She was baptized and confirmed at the Concordia Lutheran Church, Pickerel Lake.
She and Erven G. Olson were married on Jan. 25, 1942, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Pickerel Lake. He was drafted in March of 1942, so she moved to Albert Lea and later to Abilene, Texas, where he was stationed in the Army. Hulda moved back to Albert Lea and began working at Rilco and American Gas until Mr. Olson returned to Albert Lea after the war in October of 1945.
They made their home at 1309 Louis St. and in 1955 they built a home and moved across the street to 1322 Louis.
She was an active
member of First Lutheran Church.
Throughout her life Hulda had cooked at Naeve Hospital, sold Watkins products, worked as a health aide and also worked at JC Penney.
She belonged to many organizations including the American Legion Auxiliary where she was past president and had chaired many programs. She was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary, life member of the D.A.V. Auxiliary, was past commander and past department commander of the State D.A.V. Auxiliary, V.A.V.S. person for the Minneapolis Vets Hospital, and visited veterans at the Good Samaritan.
She was escorted member of the 90th Division Association (her husband’s service division).
She had been a Red Cross volunteer for the bloodmobile program as well as being a donor herself. She received a trophy for State Community Service from the D.A.V. Auxiliary.
Hulda&8217;s family members are daughter Judith Deitz of Billings, Mont., son Jerrol Olson of Albert Lea, son Jeff Olson and his wife Carol of rural Glenville, grandchildren Mark Lacy and his wife Rebecca, Lisa Ollila, Tiffany and her husband Larry Robinson, Jerrol Olson, Jonathan Olson, Jill Olson, and Jina Olson, sister Evelyn Perkins, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Erven; her son John; parents Fred and Anna Schmidt; sister Marie Thostenson; and brothers Ernest, George and Alvin Schmidt.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to First Lutheran Church for youth programs.
