John Enger Sr., 72, Albert Lea

Funeral services for John M. Enger Sr., age 72, of Albert Lea, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home.
Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

John died on Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, at his home from terminal lung cancer.
John Martin Enger was born on Oct. 2, 1934 in Ringstead, Iowa, the son of Martin and Engle (Wiener) Enger.
He was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Villard, and attended and graduated from Villard High School in 1953.
John graduated from Ft. Sam Air Force Base in Houston, Texas in 1954 where he studied in the med tech program.
John served in the United States Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and served at the Finley, N.D. Radar Base from 1972 until his discharge on Aug. 31, 1974.
On July 27, 1957 he was united in marriage to Jane Hauge at Williston, N. D.
The couple resided in Villard from 1974 until 1991.
During those years, John was a dairy farmer.
The couple moved to Albert Lea in 1991 where he was the business manager at the Community Foot Clinic for his son, Dr. John Enger.
He was a member of the United States Air Force Services Club, Minneapolis, the Elks and Legion of Albert Lea and past commander of the American Legion in Villard.
He served 17 years on the Villard School Board, was a commander the Civil Air Patrol in Glenwood, a member of the Minnesota Flying Farmers and a member of the Air Force Sergeant Association.
John loved spending time with his family and many friends. He loved to fly and ride his Harley Davidson Motorcycle and loved to watch and attend sports events.
Survivors include his wife Jane of Albert Lea; children, Sherree and husband Greg Engen of Sauk Centre, Dr. John and wife Liz Enger of Albert Lea, Nancy and husband Ron Kirchenwitz of Shakopee and Ken and wife Amanda Enger of Albert Lea; brothers, Lloyd and wife Mary Schnetzer, Bill and wife Janet Schnetzer and sister, Wilmeta and husband Dale Massmann, all of Villard; 10 grandchildren, Britanni, Bryanne and Brooke Engen, Tiffany and Tristan Kirchenwitz, Jordan, Kristen, Ben, Kelsey and Carter Enger; mother-in-law, Gladys Strand, Williston, N.D.; brother-in-law, Ken Hauge, Bend, Ore.; sisters-in-law, Nancy Bratcher, Caneyville, Ky. and Vicki Hunt, Williston, N.D.
John was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Charlie Stoltz and Orville Schnetzer.
