Marian Gstalder, 88, Albert Lea

The memorial service for Marian M. Gstalder will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Bonnerup Funeral Chapel in Albert Lea. The Rev. Mark Wendland will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday at Bonnerup Funeral Chapel and one hour before the service on Tuesday.
Marian died on Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, at Albert Lea Medical Center. She was 88 years old.
Marian was born in Albert Lea on Dec. 17, 1917, the daughter of Peter F. and Amelia (Sanderson) Johnson.
She attended school in Glenville through 8th grade, graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1935 and then graduated from Mankato State University with a degree in teaching.
She was united in marriage with Delbert C. Gstalder in 1940 in Glenville, Minn.
They lived in Glenville until 1968 when they moved to Albert Lea. Marian taught country school in districts 47 and 66 near Glenville for 10 years and then in Glenville School District for 26 years. She had a passion for politics and teaching but most of all was the deep love of her family. Marian was delighted with her two granddaughters, Sheryl, and Natalie. She was very involved in the care, nurturing, and edification, of them both during their formative years.
During her retirement years she enjoyed and relished the company of her dearest and closet friends.
Marian is survived by two children: Rona Rae Gstalder of Burnsville, Minn. and Robert Charles Gstalder of Albert Lea; two granddaughters: Dr. Sheryl (Scott) Cheney of Kentucky and Natalie (Justin Fultz) Lappi of Florance, Ariz.; one great granddaughter, Samantha Gail Cheney of Kentucky; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delbert in 1979; three sisters:
Pearle Sybilrud, Jeannette Schneider, Beatrice Johnson; one brother, Sophus Johnson.
