Medford takes down USC in overtime 58-55

Jordan Stenzel hit a 3-pointer as time expired in regulation to send United South Central into overtime with Medford, but the Rebels could not pull out the win in the extra session falling, 58-55 Friday at home.

It was the fourth straight loss for the Rebels who began the season 2-0.

USC was down three points with five seconds to go when Stenzel got the ball in the corner and drained the 3 as time expired to force overtime.

The Rebels hurt themselves with 22 turnovers in the game and they allowed Medford to get 10 offensive rebounds in the second half.

&8220;We have had our moments but we are just not rebounding, taking care of the ball and we are taking bad shots,&8221; USC head coach Rob Stevermer said.

The Rebels would have a chance to tie the game up in overtime with another last-second 3 but this one came up empty.

Chris Yost led USC with 17 points and 14 rebounds while Stenzel finished with 10.

Mank. West 74, Albert Lea 51

Mankato West took control of its game with Albert Lea early holding a 44-27 halftime lead and cruised from there winning 74-51.

A.J. Kortz led the Tigers with 15 points and both Jared Gavle and R.J. Polley added 10 points apiece.

The loss was the third straight for the Tigers in the Big Nine Conference as they moved to 1-3 on the season.

Lake Mills 63, Belm.-Klemme 40

The Lake Mills boys&8217; basketball team erupted for 27 first quarter points Friday night and cruised to an easy 63-40 win over Belmond-Klemme in Lake Mills.

&8220;We played an excellent first quarter where our defense fueled our transition offense and we were able to build a big lead early,&8221; said Bulldogs head coach Kyle Menke.

Lake Mills took that first quarter advantage and held a commanding 41-21 halftime lead. The Bulldogs got balanced scoring as three players finished in double figures and eight put points on the board.

Steve Hengesteg led all players with 21 points while Michael Johnson and David Rygh added 11 apiece.

&8220;Hengesteg played a great overall game,&8221; said Menke. &8220;He shot well from the outside and played outstanding defense.&8221;

After the scoring fest of the first half, the third and fourth quarters were more defensive as B-K held the Bulldogs to only nine points in the third but could only manage nine points themselves in the fourth and were blown out by 23.

With the win the Bulldogs improve to a very respectable 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the North Iowa Conference standings. LM is back in action Tuesday night when they travel to Forest City.
