OWATONNA &8212; These are the games young teams aren&8217;t suppose to win, but the Albert Lea girls&8217; hockey team found a way. Trailing 2-0 with less than six minutes to play the Tigers poured in three goals to beat Owatonna, 3-2 Tuesday.
The Huskies lost control of the game late in large part because of bad penalties that set the Tigers up with a couple of 5-on-3 power plays.
Madi Passingham scored the first goal at full strength from the top of the circle with assists going to Abby Leach and Lauren Klick.
Amy Gackstetter continued her strong showing of late with a power play goal off an assist from Sarah Jensen to tie the game at 2 minutes later.
With goalie Kendra Olchefske playing well after giving up
an early goal, the Tigers were able to get the two points on the road when Passingham slammed home the winning goal with just 1:03 left on the clock.
&8220;I am real proud of the girls because they have gotten three big points on the road against two tough Big Nine teams,&8221; Albert Lea head coach Steve Falk said. &8220;We still have work to do before the Christmas break but these girls are showing that they are battlers.
&8220;Both Madi and Amy are goal scorers and it is good to see them get going.&8221;
The Tigers are now 4-3-1 and travel to John Marshall Thursday.
