ROCHESTER &045; The Albert Lea girls&8217; hockey team picked up its third conference win in its last five games Thursday downing Rochester John Marshall 4-0.
The Tigers have posted wins over Mankato East, Owatonna and JM while tying Faribault in games all played on the road.
&8220;We keep picking up points and the best thing is that all these teams still have to come to our place,&8221; Albert Lea head coach Steve Falk said. &8220;We still have a tough test against (Mankato) West on Tuesday, but we are right in the mix and we want on to the top two seeds in our section.&8221;
The Tigers got two goals each from Sophia Jepson and Madi Passingham to secure the win as goaltender Keli Hanson pitched a shutout.
The Tigers first goal came when Jepson fired the puck home in the first period with assists gong to Jenna Christensen and Passingham. Passingham would add her second point of the period with an unassisted tally.
Jepson would open the scoring in the second period with an unassisted goal of her own, and Passingham would end the scoring lighting the lamp off a pass from Sarah Jensen.
&8220;We continue to go to the net hard these past few games and being aggressive has helped us,&8221; Falk said. &8220;The girls have identified their roles and it has really proven beneficial.&8221;
The Tigers fired off 35 shorts to just 11 for JM, but Falk pointed out that many of those were quality efforts which Hanson had to contend with.
Albert Lea is now 5-3-1 on the season with a road test against Mankato West coming Tuesday.
