U-12 team improves to 14-1

The Elks&8217; Albert Lea U-12 B girls&8217; hockey team won in the Wayzata Youth Hockey Association Shooting Star Tournament Dec. 15 to 17.

Albert Lea tallied wins against Minnetonka in the opener, 5-2, Wayzata Gold, 8-2, in the semifinals and posted a 2-1 victory against Lakeville Black in the championship.

Megan Pulley started the scoring attack on Minnetonka in the first period with an unassisted goal.

Albert Lea&8217;s Samantha Stanley played strong defense as the squad allowed just seven shots on goal. Natasha Moyer scored the second unassisted goal for Albert Lea.

But within a minute of play, Minnetonka slipped a pair of goals passed Albert Lea&8217;s Sydney Conley to even the game after the second period. Anna Anderson scored the next two goals on assists from Pulley, Kelsey Thomas and Stephi Falk.

Falk scored the final goal on a clearing shot off the boards across half the length of the ice under the Minnetonka goalie&8217;s stick.

Anderson netted five goals in the win against Wayzata. Pulley and goalie Conley assisted on a clearing pass. Meyer scored two goals with an assist from Sydney Overgaard. Mariah Leach capped the Albert Lea scoring with a Moyer assist.

Alexis Gordon played a strong game from her wing position with good back checking and nice passes.

Anderson set the tone in the championship against Lakeville Black just 13 second into the contest on a Falk assist. Sarah Savelkoul kept the pressure on with aggressive play, but Albert Lea was unable to score for the rest of the period.

Pulley scored the eventual game-winner in the second with a nice shot from Taylor Thompson.

Lakeville&8217;s goal came in the third, but the black couldn&8217;t tie the game, thanks to solid defensive efforts from Mackenzie Waldemar. Albert Lea finished with a 27-17 shooting advantage.

The team takes its 14-1 record to St. Peter today.
