Alvin Scherb, 83, Kiester

Alvin Scherb, age 83, of Kiester, died Wednesday Jan. 17, 2007, at
his home in Kiester. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior&8217;s Lutheran Church in Kiester. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The Rev. Dick Steffen will officiate.
Interment will be at a later date.
Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is in charge of arrangements.
Alvin G. Scherb was born April 28, 1923 in Kiester Township, Faribault County; the son of Henry and Marie (Ahnemann) Scherb. He attended District 118 country school.
After school he farmed with his father and later on his own until retiring from farming in the late 1970s.
He worked for Kiester Elevator for 13 years and did carpentry work in the Kiester area for several years.
Alvin served on the creamery board and from 1960-1980 served on the Kiester Rescue Squad.
He was a member of the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, and enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing church league softball, and dart league.
He married Marcella Steinhauer on March 15, 1945, at Faith Lutheran Church in Walters, she died in November of 1946 from complications of childbirth.
He married June Boettcher on June 8, 1949, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kiester.
Alvin is survived by his wife June of Kiester; two daughters: Nola (husband Brian) Relay of White Bear Lake and Tamra (husband David) Albers of Faribault; one son: Grant Scherb (special friend Kim Frost) of Kiester; five grandchildren: Nyle (wife Chrissy) Relay, Bryn Relay, Eric (wife Saxony) Albers, Tyler Albers, Michelle Scherb and her fianc/ Jim Holton; three sisters: Huldina Nailor of Clear Lake, Iowa, Dorthy Passer of Kiester and Henrietta (husband Paul) Smitherman of Dawson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Marcella; two infant sons; one brother George Scherb; and two nieces.
Memorials are preferred to the Kiester Ambulance Squad.
