Elmer Martin, 92, Blue Earth

Elmer Rueben Martin, age 92, of Blue Earth, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, at United Hospital in Blue Earth. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Emerald Township, with the Rev. John Otte officiating. Burial will be in
Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Patton Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 400 E. 14th St., Blue Earth, and one hour prior to services at the church. He entered into life Dec. 17, 1914 in Kossuth County, Iowa, the son of Gustave and Anna (Dornsbach) Martin. Elmer was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church, Elmore. As a child his family moved to Litchfield, where he attended school.
He was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran
Church in Litchfield, where he took part in youth group and taught Sunday school. At age 20 he moved with his family to the Easton area, farming with his father. On April 12, 1940 he was married to Eva Schewe at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Emerald Township. They farmed until retiring and moving into Blue Earth in 1976. Elmer was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Emerald Township, where he held many offices. He served on the District #97 school board, the Blue Earth Farmers Elevator, the Emerald Township board and the Farmers Mutual Insurance Co Board of Directors. For more than 20 years he and Eva spent three months every winter in their mobile home at Mesa,
Ariz., where they enjoyed playing golf and cards with friends. They also enjoyed fishing trips to northern Minnesota.
Following his retirement he became an avid gardener and was known for his sweet corn, popcorn and pumpkins. He had recently resided at St. Luke&8217;s
Lutheran
Care Center, recuperating from two broken hips.
Elmer leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Eva of Blue Earth; three daughters: Jean (and Arlen) Prescher of Albert Lea, Sharon (and Edward) Hannaman of Blue Earth, Gayle (and David) Classon of Blue Earth; a son, Garry Martin of Blue Earth; nine grandchildren; six great-grandsons; a sister, Elvera (and Harold) Kabe of Albert Lea; sister-in-law, Thelma Schewe of Blue Earth; sister-in-law, Mertice Martin of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Erwin and Lester Martin; two sisters, Adelia Schraum and Edna Weise; and a daughter-in-law, Karen Martin.
