Icemen have successful weekend

The Jr. Gold Icemen recently took first place in a home tournament allowing only three goals in three games played.

Albert Lea hosted Prior Lake in its first game Friday night and came away with a 7-1 victory.

Scoring for the Icemen were Dalton Hanson and Scott Possehl with two goals each, Nate Yentsch earned a hat trick with three goals.

The Icemen continued their victory run with a penalty-stricken game in game two Saturday against Inver Grove Heights Blue. Each team was assessed with over 30 minutes in penalties.

Despite many shorthanded shifts the Icemen were able to keep the scoring in their favor defeating IGH 4-1 advancing to the championship game Sunday.

Scoring in game two were Mark Stokke, Phil Runden, Cody Sheetz and Possehl.

Assists went to Yentsch and Gradon Schultz.

Sunday&8217;s championship game against Lakeville led to a 5-1 victory for the hometown Icemen despite their head coach Jerome Anderson not being able to join his team in the box due to having too many penalties in game two.

Anderson stated that he could not have asked for a better outcome to the tournament and he was very proud of his players.

Scoring in the championship game Possehl, Schultz, and Yentsch, assists to Jake Hamberg and Chris Karge.

Goalie Dustin Hafstad earned 64 saves throughout the weekend tournament.
