John Nelson inducted into the hall of fame

John Nelson was recently inducted into the Augsburg College Baseball Hall of Fame.

Nelson &8212; a two-time All-MIAC pitcher in baseball, competed for two seasons at Augsburg and compiled a 20-8 record with 158 strikeouts. He had a 3.01 earned run average in 1985 and a 3.84 ERA in 1986. The Auggies qualified for the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional in 1986.

That season, Nelson set an NCAA Division III record for most complete games in a season with 15, a record that still stands (the record was tied in 1999.)

He was a business finance major at Augsburg. After his Augsburg days, he worked for Equifax Services for 15 years, and for Employers Association in Plymouth for the past five years as a manager of references and background investigation services. He has worked as a youth sports coach in both soccer and basketball, and currently serves on the board of directors for the Rogers Area Youth Basketball Association. He served as a basketball official for 15 years, and still plays softball in the spring and summer.

Nelson and his wife Cindy have three daughters &8212; Erin, Emily and Sarah &8212; and live in Rogers. John graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1981. He lettered in football, basketball and baseball. He is the son of Marilynn Nelson and the late Harold J. Nelson of Clarks Grove. John&8217;s five brothers all attended the inductions and they all enjoyed the ceremony.
