L. Herbert Peterson, 89, Clarks Grove

Funeral services for L. Herbert Peterson, age 89, formerly of Clarks Grove will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, at the First Baptist Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Clayton Balsley will officiate. Interment will be in the Clarks Grove Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to the services at the Church.
Herb died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, at the Albert Lea Good Samaritan Center.
L. Herbert Peterson was born April 30, 1917, to Levi and Clara Peterson in Bath Township. He graduated with honors from Albert Lea High School. On June 18, 1939, Herb was united in marriage to Helen Marie Christianson in Clarks Grove. To this union were born three children: Forrest, Karen, and Emily. Herb was a dairy farmer and a member of the First Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, trustee, deacon, and choir member. He was a very handy individual and especially enjoyed the challenge of fixing many different things.
Survivors include his children: Forrest (Judy) Peterson of Clarks Grove, Karen (Bert) Wiersma of Ellendale; and Emily (Gary) Ayers of Clarks Grove; grandchildren: David (Tammy) Peterson, Mike (Michelle) Peterson, Brent (Ann) Wiersma, Luke Wiersma, Andrea Avery, Chad (Karie) Ayers, Bethany (Kyle) Miller, and Joanie Ayers; 13 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Omer Murray of Blue Earth; and nieces and nephews.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents; Helen, his wife of 56 years; and sisters, Ruby (Sterling) Palmerton and Una Murray.
