NRHEG boys win, girls fall to Hayfield

HAYFIELD &8212; The New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva boys&8217; basketball team came out firing and pulled away in a convincing 70-49 victory over Hayfield Saturday.
The Panthers hit nearly 50 percent of their shots from the floor in the game and combined to hit nine 3-pointers as a team led by Dakota Tracy&8217;s four.
Tracy led three Panthers in double figures with 23 points and six assists. Brian Warnke added 14 points and Brad Kruckeberg had 11 points and eight rebounds.
NRHEG held a commanding 38-25 lead at halftime.
&8220;We shot the ball well especially in the first half and that helped us build a lead,&8221; NRHEG head coach Matt Eppen said.
Justin Scherbring and Keefe Zellnske led Hayfield with nine points apiece.
The Panthers improved their record to 7-4 on the season.
The Panther girls ran into a tough opponent in No. 6 Hayfield and lost 66-36.
Hayfield dominated the first half of the game taking a 43-19 lead into the locker room.
Jasmine Brouwers led NRHEG with 13 points and Brittany Hansen added 10.
The Panthers hit just 29 percent of their shots from the floor and was outrebounded 35-23 in the contest.
NRHEG now sits at 7-4 on the season and faces USC in New Richland tonight as it looks to improve on its 5-0 Gopher Conference mark.
