Ruth Avis Mitchell, age 90, of Austin, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, at St. Marks Lutheran Home, Austin.
She was born Sept. 12, 1916 in Detroit Lakes, to Ray and Vera (Faus) Ferguson.
Ruth graduated from the Detroit Lakes High School and the University of Minnesota. She was married to John Mitchell who died during World War II and is buried in Belgium. Ruth moved to the Austin area in the mid 1940’s and was a librarian with the Austin Public Schools in the District Media Services Department. She retired in 1977. Ruth is a member of the Christ Episcopal Church of Austin and has been an active volunteer at the Sacred Heart Care Center as well as several other Austin area organizations. Ruth enjoyed traveling and in her retirement has traveled extensively around the world.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
She is survived by cousins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007 at 3 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. Scott Monson officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, at a later date. Memorials are preferred to the Saint Francis Academy, P.O. Box 1340 Salina, Kan. 67402-1340.
