United South Central boys get win, A-C girls pick up second in a row

RANDOLPH &8212; Led by 12 points and 15 rebounds the United South Central boys&8217; basketball team downed Randolph 55-32 Friday.

The Rebels dominated the first half of the game going into the locker room with a 38-5 lead.

Amos Bessler added 10 points and Tyler Linde had seven points.

The Rebels are now 3-4 in the Gopher Conference and 6-9 overall.

Rand. 48, USC 41

WELLS &8212; The United South Central girls&8217; basketball team came up short against Randolph 48-41 Friday.

Lauren Schuster led the Rebels with 12 points and eight rebounds while Shawnee Sovell added 12 points and five rebounds.

The Rebels have a mark of 2-13 on the season.

A-C 50, LCWM 45

ALDEN &045; The Alden-Conger girls&8217; basketball team picked up its second victory in as many nights Friday with a 50-45 win over Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial.

Kaylee Newman and Krista Mathiason led the Knights with 10 points apiece. Nadean Krueger added eight, Haley Johnson had eight and Megan Miller had 11 rebounds.

The game was tied at 22 at halftime, but the Knights outscored LCWM 28-23 after the break.

&8220;The girls played good defense and they are doing the things we need to win,&8221; A-C head coach Mark Henrich said.

Thursday night, A-C took care of Madelia 39-36. The Knights had a two point advantage at halftime and kept up the intensity in the second half.

Krueger and Miller each had double-doubles for the Knights with 13 points and 11 rebounds and 11 points and 10 rebounds, respectively.

Newman also added 10 points.

Madelia was able to tie the game in the second half, but Miller hit a big 3-pointer that helped A-C regain control.

The Knights are now 3-9 on the season and 2-6 in Valley Conference play.

NRHEG 45, WEM 36

NEW RICHLAND &8212; The New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva girls&8217; basketball team remained perfect in Gopher Conference play with a 45-36 win over Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Friday.

The Panthers are now 9-0 in conference play and have not lost in 22 straight conference contests.

Alyssa Hagen led the Panthers with 12 points and eight rebounds. Brittany Hansen added 11 points, Jasmine Brouwers had a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards while Gina Quiram had eight points and 10 rebounds.
