Yost shines as USC gets win

MANKATO &8212; Chris Yost made a little history Tuesday night as the Rebel senior pulled down 25 rebounds to go along with his 20 points as United South Central downed Mankato Loyola 55-44 Tuesday night.

&8220;That is probably the first time in school history that we have had someone grab over 20 rebounds in a game,&8221; USC head coach Rob Stevermer.

Mankato would chop the Rebels double-digit halftime lead into single digits, but the Rebels would always find the answer building up an 18-point advantage with five minutes left in the game.

The Rebels dominated the boards and got contributions from several different players.

Jake Sonnek added 10 points and both Tom Eilertson and Bryan Hauge had seven points apiece.

USC is now 7-9 on the season and will host Medford Friday.

&8220;This was a big win for us over a team that had beaten us earlier this season,&8221; Stevermer said.

&8220;Hopefully it gives us momentum.&8221;

Lake Mills 62, W. Hancock 47

LAKE MILLS, Iowa &8212; The Lake Mills boys&8217; basketball team rolled out to a 10-point first quarter lead and never looked back downing West Hancock 62-47.

The Bulldogs were led by Mitch Storby&8217;s 17 points, but Lake Mills got scoring from 11 different players in the game.

The victory improved Lake mills to 8-5 on the season and 6-3 in the North Iowa Conference.

A-C 63, LeCenter 62

ALDEN &8212; The Alden-Conger girls&8217; basketball team won its third consecutive game downing LeCenter, 63-62 Tuesday.

The Knights clung to a one point lead over the final 1:30 of the game, but LeCenter was never able to convert a bucket to take the lead.

&8220;All the hard work we put in at the beginning of the season is starting to pay off now,&8221; A-C head coach Mark Henrich said.

Megan Miller led the Knights with 15 points, Haley Johnson added 13 and Krista Mathiason chipped in with 10. The Knights enjoyed balanced scoring with five players in all hitting for eight or more.

A-C is now 4-9 overall and 3-6 in the Valley Conference.

USC 71, Mankato Loyola 51

WELLS &8212; The United South Central girls&8217; basketball team picked up its third Gopher Conference victory of the season with a dominating 71-51 win over Mankato Loyola Tuesday night.

The Rebels were led by Lauren Schuster&8217;s 24 points and 10 rebounds while Sam Sonnek and Amber Johnson added 14 points apiece.

The win improved USC to 3-7 in conference and 3-1 overall.

Lake Mills 55, W. Hancock 42

LAKE MILLS, Iowa &8212; Lake Mills had four girls in double figures as it pounded West Hancock 55-42.

Whitney Thompson led the way with 15 points, Jade Durnil and Megan Pederson added 12 apiece and Becky Dahn had 10.

The Bulldogs had a six point halftime lead and stretched it to 10 by the start of the fourth.
