Arletta Hummer, 84, Kiester

Arletta Hummer, age 84, of Kiester, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, at Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Kiester.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Kiester.

Arletta Hummer was born May 8, 1922, the daughter of Grover Cleveland and Sadie Mae (Terpstra) Whitcomb on the family farm near Wells. Arletta grew up in rural Wells, attended country school and was a graduate of Wells High School, the class of 1939. On Sept. 14, 1945, she married Russell M. Hummer in Wells.

They farmed in rural Kiester until retiring in 1997.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Kiester and a member of the United Methodist Women.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking, photography and especially loved caring for her family and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by three children: son Larry and his wife Nancy Hummer of Kiester, two daughters, Judy and her husband Earl Enstad of Revere and Janet and her husband Dale Garvick of Kiester; 10 grandchildren: Cara (Ryan) Houle, Christy (Scott) Larson, Lindsay Hummer, Jennifer Enstad, Suzanne Enstad, Ted (Julie) Enstad, Leah (Owen) Hoegh, Holly (Daniel) Germscheid, Jill Garvick and Jason Garvick; five great-grandchildren: Ava Larson, Abby Larson, Isabelle Houle, Brendan Germscheid and Clara Hoegh; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Russell in 1998; one grandson; one granddaughter; two brothers, Glen and Dale Whitcomb; and one sister, Darlene Courrier.
