Editorial: Move cars, help plows do their job

Last weekend, we got a little reminder of just what winter in Minnesota is all about. And now, more is on the way.
So many inches of snow at one time can make it a challenge to get around, to put it mildly. And when the plows go out, they can&8217;t always do the job they should be able to in many cases.
Why? Because they have to plow around cars out in the street. Sure, the volume of snow we get sometimes takes us by surprise. Some people probably don&8217;t think it&8217;s much of an issue, so they don&8217;t move their cars off the street.
But when people don&8217;t move their cars off
the street when it snows, the plows have to take a wide sweep around these vehicles left out there. When the plow has to drive around these vehicles, the snow piles up around them, making it very difficult to move them. When they do move, there is a mess that makes it tough for anybody else to park there before the plow comes by again.
The simple solution is to pay attention and make sure there&8217;s a place to park your car off the street when it snows. Having the street cleaned off makes it easier for us all to get around.
And another reminder: Please don&8217;t plow snow from the sidewalk or your driveway out into the streets. It&8217;s against the law.
Some towns have gone to even-odd parking during snow emergencies. Ours hasn&8217;t had to do that, and shouldn&8217;t need to. We don&8217;t need an ordinance on the books about this. Let&8217;s take care of this ourselves so the next time the plows have to go out they can do a better job.
