Funeral services for Mavis S. Horning, age 69, of Albert Lea, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. The Rev. Tammy Dahlvang will officiate.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Mavis died on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at Albert Lea Medical Center.

Mavis Sarah Horning was born on May 19, 1937, in Northwood, Iowa, the daughter of Julius and Bertha (Woods) Wikoren.

She lived in Freeborn County most of her life. On Sept. 18, 1954, Mavis was united in marriage to Donald C. Horning in Glenville. Mavis was a homemaker, very devoted to her family, and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo.

Survivors include her husband, Donald of Albert Lea; children: Debbie and her husband, Nat Ponticello of Omaha, Neb., Rick Horning of Albert Lea, Diane Christianson of Albert Lea, and Pat Horning of Craig, Colo.; daughter-in-law, Judy Horning of Northwood; grandchildren: Mario, Jarod, Nicole, Mike, Christon, Chad, Chauna, Jenna, Mitch, Matt, Trevor, Cecilia, April, Jeremy, Mark, Nicholas, Joseph, Greg, Heather, and Danny; great-grandchildren: Katrina, Doug, Tyler, Luke, Tylor, David, Christopher, Dimitri and Will; brother, Howard Wikoren of Indiana; sisters: Esther Peterson of Albert Lea, Jelaine Nesset of Albert Lea, Alice and husband, Jim Anderson of New Ulm, Delores and husband, Dick Matson of Mo., and Betty and husband, Duane Erickson of California; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mavis was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Mark Horning, and her sisters, Stella Jensen and Ruby Hanson.
