Panthers fall to WEM, MVL trips up USC

WATERVILLE &8212; Waterville-Elysian-Morristown was able to outscore New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva in the second half of its Gopher Conference game coming away with a 52-48 win.

WEM was led by Justin Gregor and Kenny Wollin who had 19 and 17 points, respectively.

The Panthers were paced by Brian Warnke&8217;s 18 points and Brad Kruckeberg&8217;s 14. NRHEG did hit six 3-pointers in the game.

The Panthers are now 9-7 in conference action and 13-11 overall.

MVL 87, USC 68

NEW ULM &8212; Minnesota Valley Lutheran shot well and took advantage of 21 United South Central turnovers to pick up an 87-68 victory Monday night.

USC was led by Jake Sonnek who had 26 points and eight rebounds while Chris Yost had 10 and seven.

The Rebels were down 10 at halftime and got only as close as eight points in the second half.

The two teams will play again Saturday in a first round section game in New Ulm.

&8220;We need to concentrate on getting back on defense and controlling the pace of the game,&8221; USC head coach Rob Stevermer said of what his team needs to improve on.

Lanesboro 75, G-E 56

GLENVILLE &8212; The Glenville-Emmons boys&8217; basketball team recently dropped a game to Southeast Conference champion Lanesboro, 75-56.

The Wolverines kept the game close staying within one point with eight minutes to go in the first half. However, Lanesboro scored eight points in the final minute to take a 14-point halftime lead.

G-E would get as close as seven points in the second half.

Jarrad Knutson led the Wolverines with 19 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. Josh Adams added 10 points.

Knutson broke the school&8217;s all-time season scoring mark in the game with 597 total points. The mark was previously held by John VanBeek which he set in 1993.

G-E begins section play tonight when it hosts Cannon Valley Lutheran.
