DES MOINES, Iowa &8212; Two members of the state champion Northwood-Kensett boys&8217; basketball team were named to the all-state team by the Iowa Newspaper Association.

Senior guard Dan Bestul was a first team selection after averaging 15.3 points per game and six rebounds per contest.

Bestul also led the Vikings in scoring in their championship game against Iowa Mennonite this past Friday.

Fellow senior Cody Hanson was a third team all-state selection after putting up 14.8 points per game and grabbing nearly eight boards for the Vikings.

He was named a co-captain to the Class 1A all-tournament team at state and posted a double-double in the Vikings&8217; semifinal win against Lone Tree.

The pair played a major role in securing Northwood-Kensett&8217;s first-ever team state title.

Clayton Vette, a 6&8217;9″ senior from Class 3A Waverly-Shell Rock, was named Mr. Basketball for the state of Iowa.

Vette, a two-time all-state selection, led Waverly-Shell Rock to consecutive state tournament appearances and its first victory in Des Moines since 1982. Vette and the Go-Hawks played

Bishop of Sioux City Heelen winning a 74-51 decision.

A versatile player, Vette is comfortable bringing the basketball up the floor as well as setting up in the low post. He averaged 19 points and 12 rebounds a game despite a lingering hamstring injury.

Vette has committed to play college basketball at Indiana State next season.
