Chris Svenningsen, 99, Wells

Chris Svenningsen, age 99 of Wells, died Thursday, March 1, 2007, at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells.

Visitation will be on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and

one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Pastor Meg Sander will officiate. Interment will be in the Rosehill Cemetery in Wells with military honors by the Wells Color Guard.

Christian Thorvald Svenningsen was born on April 20, 1907 in Vraa, Denmark the son of John and

Anna (Nielsen) Svenningsen. At the age of 6 years he came to America.

On Sept. 6, 1934 he married Mina Brandt at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wells. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II. He was a buttermaker and owned his own creamery in Dawson and later worked at the Mankato Post Office as a letter carrier for 22 years, retiring in 1968. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells American Legion Post #210, member of NALC National Association of Letter Carriers and NARFE-National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Also served as a past president for Wells Senior Citizens. He enjoyed reading, fishing,

woodworking, traveling to 49 states as well as to Canada and Mexico.

Chris is survived by his wife Mina of 72 years, brother: Arnold and his wife Betty Svenningsen of North St. Paul; special niece: Virginia (Ginner) and her husband Mervil Boettcher of Alden;

special cousin: Ruthann and her husband Norm Wegner of Winnebago; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Swan and his wife Stella, brothers Martin and Einer (who remained in Denmark), brother Harry (killed in WW II), brother Harvey (Hop) and his wife Doris, sister Alma Larson and her husband Maurice and sister Mary Svenningsen, nephews: Ross Svenningsen and Dick Svenningsen and one niece: Eleanor Beck-Olson.
