Donald L. LaValley, age 78, of Austin died Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at Austin Medical Center.
He was born July 19, 1928, in Austin, to Bernard and Alvina (Hanson) LaValley.
Don graduated from Austin High School and attend Gustavus Adolphus College. He was married to Lois Nelson on April 5, 1952, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. He was employed by Mower County from 1954 thru 1989 working in the auditor&8217;s office, serving as county auditor from 1986 through his retirement.
Don was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church where he had served on the church council. He was a former member of the Austin Jaycees and was named &8220;Outstanding Young Man in America.&8221; Don was a active member of Fidelity Lodge #39 AF&AM, St. Bernard&8217;s Commandery, served as Grand Commander for the State of Minnesota. He had also been Worthy Patron with the Eastern Star and Guardian of Jobs Daughters.
Don was preceded in death by his wife Lois on March 7, his mother Alvina, and father Carlos Pedersen.
He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Lynne and Mike Boyer of Albert Lea and Nancy and Brian Clingman of Austin; grandchildren, Stacy Clingman of Austin, Michelle Boyer of Albert Lea, Jami (Tim) Johnston of Albert Lea, Terri Boyer of Albert Lea and Luke Boyer of Albert Lea; great-grandchildren, Alisha, Tristen, Trent, Andrew, Riley, Cole and Kylie; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert C. and Karen Pedersen and Kenneth D. and Nancy Pedersen of Stillwater; stepsister and husband, Lorelei and Richard Bliss of Austin; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ron Barnett officiating. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Austin with Austin Post #91 American Legion in charge of military rites. There with be a Masonic service at 7 p.m. today at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today and at the church one hour before the service. The family prefers memorials to the Capital Appeal Fund at St. Olaf Lutheran Church.
Casket Bearers will be Brian Clingman, Mike Boyer, Tim Johnston, Luke Boyer, Tony Lecakis and Larry Amdahl.
