Donkey basketball coming to ALHS March 18

Albert Lea High School business management students are sponsoring a donkey basketball event on Sunday, March 18. This event will take place in the ALHS gym from 2 to 4 p.m. Community members from Albert Lea and the surrounding areas are invited to attend.

The management students are hoping to have at least 700 community members attend this event. It is a fun event for people of all ages.

What is donkey basketball?

It is simply people playing basketball while riding donkeys.

There will be four teams, two high school student teams, a District 241 staff team and an Albert Lea community team who will compete against each other. Team members are to stay on or with their donkey while trying to pass the ball to other members and make a basket.

All participants are required to be at least 16 years old. They will wear helmets, knee and elbow pads and are required to sign a release form.

The donkeys will wear synthetic hoof covers to prevent them from sliding on the floor this will also protect the gym floor.

The donkeys have been trained for this type of event and will provide the audience with great entertainment.

Advanced tickets sales are available at ALHS Athletic Office, Ben&8217;s Floral Doyle&8217;s Hallmark, Hy-Vee and Nelson&8217;s Market Place.

Advanced sale tickets are $5 for students and adults.

Tickets at the door are $7 for students and adults.

Free donkey rides will be provided for kindergarten through sixth-grade students during intermission while time permits.
