Nancy Mummert, 74, Albert Lea

Nancy Irene (Jones) Mummert, 74, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester of complications following heart surgery.
Nancy, the youngest of 11 children, was born Dec. 14, 1932, to Earl and Nannie (Sallee) Jones. She attended the Minnesota School of Agriculture where she was a cheerleader and active in theater. There she met her beloved husband and best friend, Wayne Mummert. Nancy and Wayne were married Sept. 9, 1950, and moved to a small farm in Walnut Grove. A move in 1957 brought them to Albert Lea where they raised their seven children, as well as opening their hearts and home to many foster children.
Nancy&8217;s joyful and giving spirit touched many lives. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church and was truly a servant of God. Nancy enjoyed her family and especially loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Nancy had a great sense of humor and a flair for writing, party planning, and drawing up house plans. Nancy loved to travel and socialize with her many close friends. She loved to play cards, dominoes, and bridge. She especially cherished her time in recent years playing cribbage with her very special friend, Dick Waite. They logged over 11,000 games!
Nancy worked as a certified surgical technologist at Naeve Hospital for 20 years. She also served others doing much volunteer work including serving meals and working at the Naeve Hospital Auxiliary.
Nancy is survived by, four sons: Randy Mummert and wife Cheryl Beck of Colorado Springs, Colo., Terry Mummert and wife Mary of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Tim Mummert and wife Lisa of Norwalk, Ohio, Rick Mummert and wife Judy of Albert Lea; three daughters; Jacquie Trainor of Owatonna, Peggy Talamantes of Albert Lea, Saralyn Whelan and husband Mike of Austin; 18 grandchildren: Amy, Dan, Nick, Jillian, Debbie, Billy, Chirsta, Anthony, Christian, Shawna, Kristin, Angela, Kaylinn, Nathan, Alex, Ellie, Mitchell and Eric; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Aiden; two foster daughters; Beth Walker and husband Keith Holcomb and Kim Heilman and husband Scott; special and dear friend, Dick Waite; four sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by husband Wayne; parents Earl and Nannie Jones; six sisters; four brothers; three sisters-in-law; five brothers-in-law; and one grandson, Aaron Mummert.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Albert Lea United Methodist Church. Visitation will also be held at the church today from
4 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service.
