Richard Bohonek, 72, Conger

The funeral service for Richard D. &8220;Dick&8221; Bohonek Sr. of Conger was held at 10:30 a.m. today, at the First Presbyterian Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Dwight Netzer will officiate. Interment will be in Conger Cemetery. Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Bonnerup Funeral
Service and one hour prior before the service at the church.
Richard died on Saturday, March 3, 2007, at St. John&8217;s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea. He was 72.
He was born on May 17, 1934, in Lake Mills, Iowa, the son of Ray and Mabel (Bergdale) Bohonek.
Dick had been an over the road truck driver for more than 45 years. He had worked for Musselman&8217;s, Jensen Transport, Braylines, Miami Margarine/Holsum Foods where he had received an award for a million miles accident free, and later he leased to Old Reliable. He had also worked for Emil Olson and throughout his life had helped out at the Conger Meat Market that was a Bohonek family business.
Dick married Cookie Hewitt on May 10, 1955, in Mason City.
Even though Dick&8217;s job took him away often his family always came first to him. He so enjoyed cooking and spending time together.
In his younger years he enjoyed bowling at &8220;Bob&8217;s Lanes&8221; and snowmobiling.
He is survived by three children: Julia Bohonek of Albert Lea, Rick Bohonek and his wife Wendy of New Prague, Chad Bohonek and his wife, Missy of Rock Island, Ill; grandchildren: Jordan Bohonek of Albert Lea, Jen and her husband Paul Wallis of Wynne, Ark., Beth and her husband Jeremy Nelson of Wynne, Ark., Luke and Carson Bohonek of Rock Island, Ill., great grandson Levi Nelson, brothers; Curt Bohonek of Montclair, Calif., Milford (Bev) Bohonek of Conger, sister Kathy Zielie of Lakeville, several nieces and nephews, and special little friend Wyatt Sailor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Cookie in 2005, son Michael, brother Raymond Bohonek and sister Violet Jensen.
