Sarah Lunde, 73, Bowling Green, Ohio

Sarah Jeanette Lunde, 73, of Bowling Green, Ohio, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, dedicated healthcare professional, and generous volunteer, died March 25, 2007, at Wood Haven Health Care in Bowling Green.

Sarah Lunde was a Registered Nurse Supervisor at Wood Haven, formerly Wood County Nursing Home. She was employed there from 1980 to 2005. Sarah loved nursing and helping patients and their families face the challenges of illness and old age. She was a devoted church member-disciple, a willing volunteer, and a strong supporter of university and community organizations. A few years ago, she was featured as a “‘Familiar Face” in the Bowling Green Sentinel-Tribune newspaper in an article calling attention to her compassion and caring for others. Her family feels honored and comforted that she was able to spend her last days on this earth in the care of her many friends and former co-workers at Wood Haven Health Care.

Sarah was an avid reader, an organic gardener and an active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Bowling Green; the President’s Club of Bowling Green State University, the Medici Circle of the School of Art at BGSU, the BGSU Retirees Association; the U.S. Naval War College Foundation in Newport, R.I.; the Swedish Hospital Alumnae Association of Minneapolis; the Sorosis Club of Bowling Green; and the Woodhaven Retired Nurses Group.

Sarah was born on Aug. 14, 1933, in Albert Lea, to Martin and Marvyle (Stokker) Lysne. She was a 1951 graduate of Albert Lea High School in Albert Lea, and a 1954 graduate of the Swedish Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis.

On June 25, 1955, Sarah married Dr. Harold I. Lunde, currently Professor Emeritus of Bowling Green State University. Harold and Sarah celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2005.

Surviving Sarah are four sons: Paul H. Lunde of Maumee, Ohio; James A. Lunde of Columbus, Ohio; John P. Lunde of Austin; and Thomas M. Lunde of Chicago, Ill. Her surviving daughters-in-law are Diane M. Lunde of Maumee, Ohio; Lile Lunde of Columbus, Ohio; and Lisa Lunde of Austin. Sarah has four surviving grandchildren: Victoria E. Lunde of St. Louis, Mo.; Nina A. Lunde of Austin; Olivia C. Lunde of Columbus, Ohio; and Alexander H. Lunde of Columbus, Ohio.

Sarah Lunde was the seventh child born into a family of 10 children. Her surviving sisters are Marjorie Thompson, Rebecca Medd and Grace Skaar of Albert Lea; Alice Friedrich of Williamsburg, Va.; Rachel Lysne of Atlanta, Ga.; and. Ruby Armstrong of Virginia Beach, Va. Her one surviving brother is Maurice Lysne of Albert Lea. Two sisters, Edith Guirtz and Doris Wayne, preceded her in death.

A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Bowling Green, Ohio, with the Rev. Dale Schaefer officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Bowling Green. Visitation will be at the Dunn Funeral Home in Bowling Green, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m.
